Meet the BREAKAWAY Team

Jeff and Christa founded BREAKAWAY with a vision to create a gym where clients workout like athletes in a fun comfortable environment. At BREAKAWAY there are no gimmicks or fancy diets or fads, instead you are faced with serious workouts from a team who really know their stuff.

JEFF TEACH

Co-owner/Personal Trainer/Cycling Instructor

NSCA-CSCS/USA Weightlifting Level I/Kettlebell Certified/CrossFit Level I

While at the University of Illinois Jeff was a two time ALL American in Track and Field and earned four Big Ten Championships as a shot putter. After college he trained at the Olympic Training Center, for the 1996 Olympics. Jeff made it to the trials, but a shoulder injury prevented him from making the team. Since then he directed his career towards Personal Training as a strength and conditioning coach at George Mason University with a major focus on injury prevention and recovery. Still very competitive he cycles as a Category 3 road racer, and NORBA Sport Level/Clydesdale Mountain Bike Racer.

He is known as a silent but scary trainer. NEVER make the mistake of telling Jeff a workout was easy.

On his days off you’ll find him with Christa and their son Gordon and his twin girls Eleni & Zephera. He loves camping or looking for serenity in a fly-fishing rod.

CHRISTA DALAKIS

Co-owner/Personal Trainer/Cycling Instructor

ACE Certified

Christa was a two sport division I scholarship athlete in Women’s Fast-pitch Softball and Women’s Volleyball at George Mason University. After graduating she played with the Connecticut Brakettes, a prestigious Women Majors fast-pitch team.

In August 2002 Christa made the Greek National Softball Team which won GOLD at the 2003 European Championships B-Pool. In 2004 she was selected to be an alternate and assistant coach for the team at the OLYMPIC SUMMER GAMES in Athens, Greece. In 2005 she helped the team win an A Pool Silver at the European Championships.

In the gym Christa is known for her sarcasm and her ability to ‘Christa’ people. To be Christa’d is to suddenly find yourself doing something you had no intention of doing. Not a bad trick for a trainer!

Christa enjoys spending her time off with Jeff and their son Gordon and her twin girls Eleni & Zephera. She loves anything to do with being out doors.

AL CLARK

BS in Human Nutrition, Foods & Exercise; LMT, ACE, & CPR/AEDal clark pic

Our resident fill-in when he isn’t coaching football: Al Clark was introduced to various sports at an early age while growing up. Living a healthy lifestyle and being physically fit has always been an integral part of his life. As a native of Washington D.C. and a graduate of Archbishop Carroll High School, he excelled in football and basketball. He received 1st team All-Met honors by the Washington Post along with other local and national awards, as the top quarterback prospect in the Mid-Atlantic region. He accepted a full scholarship offer to play football at Virginia Tech in 1994. While at Virginia Tech, he participated in five bowl games with two Big East Championship teams, and was recognized as Team Captain and Team Most Valuable Player his junior and senior years. Al received his Bachelor’s from VT and then after graduating decided to pursue a new interest, Massage Therapy. He then received his LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist).

Don’t let his quiet demeanor and cute smile fool you – no negotiating, complaining or taking it easy with this former All American – he will whip you into shape in a flash!

CLAY WENTE

Personal Trainer – NASM/Eleiko Strength Coach/CrossFit Level 1 Certified

Clay was born and raised in Reston. He grew up playing ice hockey and was recruited for junior hockey at the age of 15. Clay then went to play in top leagues in Ontario and the US. He then went on to play at Liberty University.

Clay now teaches hockey part-time as well as trains at BREAKAWAY. He is certified through NASM and is CPR certified.

Clay still competes in recreational adult hockey and loves to push heavy weight around. In his free time he loves to travel and spend time with family. He is a great conversationalist, but don’t think you will sit around drinking coffee and chatting as he also likes to push in the work outs!

SEAN MONTGOMERY

Personal Trainer

Sean graduated from McDaniel college where he received his bachelors in Exercise Science. He was a wide receiver for the football team for his four years at McDaniel. Sean still works part-time at the JCC in Bethesda while not at BREAKAWAY. Sean enjoys surfing and yoga in his free time. It may be hard to get Sean fired up with his chill demeanor but you better watch out as those work outs are nothing but chill.

BEN ZAJIC

Personal Trainer

Ben has a BA from Lafayette College with a double major in Biology and Psychology where he was a Division I swimmer. He also has a Master’s in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology from ECU. Ben is still coaching swimming regularly and looks forward to putting his land work to the test even if he is smiling the entire work out.

ELENA BRATICHKO

Elena graduated from the University of Belarus in 1985 with a BS in Physical Education. In Belarus she did advanced work in massage therapy and came to the United States where she completed a massage program at the Fairfax School of Massage in 2004 and holds a certificate from the Commonwealth of VA Board of Nursing. Elena is not only an excellent massage therapist, but she is a tremendous athlete. Elena was a member of the Russian National Rowing Team for 7 years and competed in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and captured a Silver medal.
